Former Bee baseball writer Nick Peters is one of three finalists for the 2009 J.G. Taylor Spink Award, it was announced Friday.
It's the third time Peters has been a finalists for the award, which is voted on by the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA). Peters finished second in voting last year to Larry Whiteside of the Boston Globe.
The two other finalists include Dave Van Dyck of the Chicago Tribune and Bob Elliott of the Toronto Star.
Winners of the Spink Award - annually given since 1962 - are recognized in the "Scribes & Mikemen" exhibit in the library of the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.
Peters began covering the Giants for The Bee in 1988. Before that he covered the team for the Berkeley Daily Gazette and Oakland Tribune since 1961.
