Sacramento State linebackers Cyrus Mulitalo and Mike Brannon were named to the Sports Network's Football Championship Subdivision Preseason All-America team, it was announced Friday.

Mulitalo was one of four linebackers tabbed for the first team, while Brannon was named to the third team. The Hornets were the only team in the FCS to be represented by two linebackers.

Mulitalo, a 6-foot-1, 245-pound senior from San Leandro, and Brannon, a 6-1, 225-pound senior from Cordova High School, were first-team all-Big Sky and honorable mention All-America selections last season.

Mulitalo tallied 98 tackles, including 13.5 tackles for loss. He enters the season ranked fifth in school history with 240 career tackles and 26.0 career TFLs.

Brannon had a breakthrough season in 2007 with 81 total tackles and a team-best 18.0 tackles for loss.

Sac State opens its regular season Aug. 30 at 6:05 p.m. against Humboldt State at Hornet Stadium.

Howley averaged 22.6 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists last season at Sinagua High School.

He was named first-team All-Region three times and All-State honorable mention as a junior and senior.
