Kings: Palm rocks Kings purple

Published: Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008 | Page 4C

One good deed deserves another, so wearing a purple shirt was the least Matt Palm could do Friday night at Arco Arena.

He might be an unrepentant Lakers fan at heart, but his wheelchair was sitting courtside at the Kings-Oklahoma City game because shooting guard Kevin Martin had extended the invite. And that meant this purple was in honor of the home team.

"This is for Kevin," Palm said while sitting with his father, Jan.

Just as Palm's story had inspired Martin, the 18-year-old basketball junkie was touched by what Martin had provided. As he sat watching player introductions, his eyes welled up as he shared his experience.

"We got here kind of early and he came up to me in warmups and said hi, told me how I was an inspiration to him," Palm said. "It was really moving. I'm choking up."
