Raiders' report card

Published: Monday, Oct. 13, 2008 | Page 9C

Offense: Interim coach Tom Cable promised a more balanced attack - and it was, early on. Then it stalled in the red zone and in every other facet. Grade: D

Defense: After stopping the Saints with a three-and-out on their opening series, the Raiders leaked like a sieve, and Drew Brees toyed with Oakland's defense. Grade: D

Special teams: Sebastian Janikowski missed 2 of 3 field-goal attempts, punter Shane Lechler did not allow Reggie Bush a game-breaking return, and Johnnie Lee Higgins got the Raiders off to a good start with a big return. Grade: C

Overall: Not the start Cable wanted, expected or needed to begin his tenure as interim coach. The Raiders started well and folded early in the second half, precluding another fourth-quarter collapse. Grade: D-
