GIRLS ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Laurynne Chetelat, Davis, Sr.

She is one of the state's top distance runners, regardless of surface. The Division I state cross country champion and 2007 All–Metro Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year nearly upset two-time defending champ Jordan Hasay of Mission Prep of San Luis Obispo in a great 3,200-meter state final, finishing second by 0.38 seconds.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Nicki Mitchell, Oakmont

With young talent, she guided the Vikings to their third section title in four years and first in Division II.

FIRST TEAM

Tess Balcomb, Colfax, senior

She wrapped up a solid career, earning sixth (11 feet, 6 inches) in the state meet and fourth (11-9) in the Masters in the pole vault.

Tenise Brewer, Florin, senior

The 2007 All-Metro second-team selection stepped up her performance this season, earning eighth in state in the 100-meter hurdles (14.57) and first (14.42) in the Masters.

Sanmi George, Laguna Creek, senior

Put the Cardinals' program on the map with a seventh-place finish in the state 100 in 12.22 and a third-place Masters performance (12.11).

Jazmin Harper, Oakmont, freshman

How big of a surprise was Harper this season? She and Akawkaw Ndipagbor of Long Beach Poly were the only freshmen in the 400 final in the state meet. Ndipagbor finished first (53.35) and Harper (55.36) fifth.

MacKenzi Landry, Del Oro, freshman

In a year full of top local pole vaulters, the rookie performed well, placing fifth (11-6) in the state meet and first in the Masters (11-9).

Maria Malone, Folsom, junior

The 2007 All-Metro first-team cross country selection finished sixth (10.29.92) in the state 3,200 and second (10:38.96) to Laurynne Chetelat of Davis in the Masters.

Diane McAllister, Bella Vista, senior

This Bronco was one of the state's top pole vaulters, earning a tie for eighth place in the state meet (11-0) and third in the Masters (11-9).

Kasey Rodgers, Franklin, senior

Long considered one of the top 100-meter sprinters in the state, she now has a state third-place medal (12.01) to prove it.

SECOND TEAM

Jordan Burke, Placer, senior (3,200).

Samantha Diaz, Ponderosa, junior (800).

Kayla Green, Florin, senior (long jump).

T'Keyah Birkley, Foothill, junior (100 H, 300 H).

Tawny Lambuth, Placer, senior (pole vault).

Laura Lilly, Rio Americano, senior (high jump).
