Núñez won't give speech at UC Davis graduation

Published: Wednesday, Jun. 11, 2008 | Page 2B

DAVIS – Former Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez has canceled a speech today at the University of California, Davis, School of Education commencement, university officials said.

Núñez had agreed to speak at the 4 p.m. ceremony in the Mondavi Center, but pulled out Tuesday because of a lingering labor dispute between the university and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.

The university has not reached agreement with the union on contracts for two bargaining units, patient care technical workers and service employees, according to a UC Davis news release.

Núñez will not be replaced.

The School of Education will award 27 doctoral degrees and 105 master's degrees at today's graduation. Officials also will recognize 126 students for completing work for teaching credentials.
