Sacramento health groups win grants

SACRAMENTO – Two Sacramento community-based health care organizations have received almost $3 million in grants from PacifiCare and its parent company, UnitedHealth Group.

Health Professions Education Foundation obtained a $2.5 million grant to award scholarships and loan repayments to clinical professionals working in underserved communities.

La Cooperativa Campesina received $394,470 to expand a personal health record system created for low-income patients without regular health care access. La Cooperativa Campesina provides job training, employment and information to farmworkers, advocates and service providers.

UnitedHealth Group provides health care coverage to more than 70 million people in the United States. The group has given more than $6.2 million in health care grants to 12 California nonprofits, it announced Sunday.

UnitedHealth Group has pledged $25 million to California to improve health care delivery statewide.
