A string of 100-degree days is just around the corner for the Sacramento region. But temperatures will remain more civilized - in the low 90s - for the Fourth of July holiday, according to the National Weather Service.
Thursday's high in downtown Sacramento was 92, said Johnnie Powell, forecaster with the weather service. The high today should be about the same, with light southerly winds. The overnight low was 60 degrees, with tonight's low predicted at 59.
For those waiting to light or watch fireworks, sunset comes at 8:33 p.m. today.
Starting Saturday, temperatures will heat up in the Sacramento area.
"By Sunday we could see the century mark, definitely on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday," Powell said.
Elsewhere in Northern California, the weather will be clear, pleasant and typical for this time of year, although numerous and persistent wild fires throughout the state are continuing to blanket many areas with smoke.
