Pleasant summer warmth, accented by a slight breeze, is expected to characterize Sacramento-region weather this weekend, though the smoke still blanketing parts of the state farther north could elbow its way into the area.
An onshore flow will help keep temperatures in the mid-90s today, Saturday and Sunday, said George Cline, a National Weather Service forecaster.
"It brings in the cooler air from the Bay Area," he said. "It's not a full-blown Delta breeze, but it's coming from that direction."
Saturday's high is forecast at 97 degrees and temperatures Sunday will lower to around 94 degrees in downtown Sacramento. Lows overnight will dip to the upper 50s to low 60s.
Smoke will continue to plague portions of the northern and central Sacramento Valley today and this evening, but Sacramento residents shouldn't see a lot of smoke - at least for now - Cline said.
"It's mostly to the north of us," he said.
Fires in Trinity County may reduce visibility at times in portions of Shasta, Tehama, Glenn, Butte, Sutter, Yuba, Colusa and Lake counties, according to a Weather Service alert.
Air quality in the Sacramento area may deteriorate, however, as light north winds increase and surface high pressure builds into southern Oregon, possibly spreading the smoke farther south, the alert states.
Air quality in the region is unhealthy for sensitive groups today, and is expected to remain that way Saturday and Sunday, according to Sacramento Regional Air Quality Resource's Web site.
