The Rocklin Teachers Association will hold a community meeting Tuesday to talk about stalled contract talks and why teachers have decided to continue their protest.
The 7 p.m. meeting will be in the Rocklin Community Center, 5480 Fifth St.
Last week, teachers picketed outside schools during back-to-school nights and handed out informational leaflets. They have refused to work additional hours outside their contract.
Teachers are available to parents and students 30 minutes before the first bell of the day and 30 minutes after the last bell, said Mary Dick, president of the association and a music teacher at Granite Oaks Middle School.
The Rocklin Teachers Association, which represents 536 teachers, declared an impasse in November with the Rocklin Unified School District. Dick said a major disagreement exists about salary and benefits, particularly the district's offer to teachers of a "0 percent" salary increase.
The teachers association has been certified to begin fact-finding Sept. 24, a step that leads to a state mediator trying to help the two sides reach an agreement.
