Larchmont Elementary in Sacramento and Beamer Park Elementary in Woodland are among 31 schools and organizations to receive Save-the-Redwoods League outdoor education grants.
The league awarded more than $100,000 to schools, park interpretative and nonprofit organizations in California and Oregon.
"Many young people have never seen a redwood tree," league executive director Ruskin Hartley said in a press release. "By making it possible for young people to visit and learn about these fragile forests, we hope to inspire the next generation of redwood stewards."
Larchmont Elementary received $3,000 for the Larchmont Grade 6 Visit to the Redwoods program, which makes its possible for sixth-grade students to learn about redwood forests at Westminster Woods Environmental Camp.
Beamer Park Elementary also received $3,000 for the Beamer Park Elementary School Trip to Sempervirens Outdoor School, a weeklong trip for sixth-graders to help them learn about conserving redwood forests.
Since its founding in 1918, the nonprofit Save-the-Redwoods League has purchased more than 180,000 acres as part of its effort to preserve ancient forests.
