Placer County inched closer Tuesday to a decision on its largest proposed community as the Board of Supervisors held a final workshop on Placer Vineyards.
The board may decide as early as July 16 on one of two visions for the 8-square-mile development proposed west of Roseville.
One plan calls for the project to add 14,132 dwelling units and 38,000 residents to the county.
The other, a "Blueprint" alternative, would increase the project to 21,631 new dwelling units and 52,000 residents.
The Blueprint has been endorsed by the Sacramento Area Council of Governments as a regional growth strategy.
The site in question encompasses 5,230 acres in a sparsely developed area bounded by Baseline Road, the Sacramento and Sutter county lines and by Dry Creek and Walerga Road.
As a mixed-use community, Placer Vineyards would include residential neighborhoods, retail centers, a community center, parks, an aquatic facility and 700 acres of open space.
County supervisors took no action following Tuesday's workshop, which included presentations by the staff and comments from the public.
Several residents of the project area asked that their street be closed if development occurs.
Traffic already is dangerous on Locust Road, they said, because it serves as a shortcut to the Placer/Sacramento county line.
Development would lead to more traffic and higher speeds on their street, they said.
"The traffic is so bad now that you can't even take the garbage outside without looking both ways," said Duane Renison.
Michael Johnson, county planning director, said the closure of Locust is being considered.
