An Auburn man has been arrested by Placer County sheriff's detectives for allegedly stealing more than $19,000 in high-end golf balls and putting them up for sale on eBay.
Gregg Michael Pistochini, 41, was taken into custody Tuesday at a Roseville gas station following a meeting with an undercover detective who sold him golf balls and recorded the suspect's statements, the Sheriff's Department reported in a news release.
Sgt. Brian Whigam said Pistochini had purchased "numerous stolen golf balls" from another suspect, Louis Latino, who shoplifted boxes of golf balls from retail stores.
Pistochini would then resell the golf balls through eBay, Whigam said.
Latino has also been arrested and is in custody in the Sacramento County jail, he said.
Pistochini was booked into the Placer County jail in Auburn on suspicion of conspiracy, grand theft and burglary, he said. He was released after posting $10,000 bail, Whigam said.
