COLUMBIA, Mo. The Bee has won two awards of excellence in the 65th annual Pictures of the Year International competition.
The first award, for newspaper series, honors The Bee's team coverage of the Southern California wildfires last year. The second award, for multiple-page feature story, honors former Bee photographer Kevin German's work: "Visions: Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk."
The Los Angeles Times earned the Angus McDougall Award for overall excellence in editing for the second year in a row.
Stephen Katz of the Virginian-Pilot was named the 2007 Newspaper Photographer of the Year and John Moore of Getty Images was honored as the Magazine Photographer of the Year.
The competition is a program of the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
An international panel of judges reviewed the entries Feb. 17 through March 7.
