SACRAMENTO The Sacramento Zoo has been accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums independent accrediting commission, the organization announced Thursday.
The Maryland-based association said the Sacramento Zoo went through an investigation to be sure it meets standards that are becoming more demanding.
Those standards concern animal care, veterinary programs, conservation, education and safety.
The AZA requires zoos and aquariums to complete the accreditation procedure every five years to be members of the association.
"Not only does the Sacramento Zoo meet or exceed AZA's high standards, but it provides every visitor with a chance to connect to global wildife conservation," AZA President Jim Maddy said in a news release.
