TRUCKEE A series of workshops on bio-mass use and stewardship contracting will focus on techniques for removing materials from forestlands and developing partnerships among community groups and the U.S. Forest Service.
The workshops are part of a regional effort to help local timber-based economies move from timber extraction to sustainable forest management, said Betony Jones, program director for the Sierra Business Council.
The Truckee-based organization is sponsoring the workshops with other groups, including the U.S. Forest Service and the Sierra Nevada Conservancy.
The workshops are designed for natural resource managers, policymakers, loggers and biomass contractors as well as business owners, investors and economic development agencies. They would also be useful for environmental organizations and conservation groups, Jones said.
Two-day workshops will be held in Auburn on May 20-21, and in Sonora on May 22-23.
Additional one-day workshops are scheduled for Bishop on May 28 and Chester on May 30.
