Incumbent Sacramento County Supervisor Susan Peters is being challenged by Warren Harding, an area parks commissioner, in county District 3, which includes Arden Arcade, Carmichael, Foothill Farms, Campus Commons, College Greens, east Sacramento, River Park and the Sierra Oaks neighborhoods.
Questions:
1. Do you support the proposed benefit assessment district for the American River Parkway?
2. Sacramento County has the fifth-highest foreclosure rate among the nation's 100 most populated regions. What, if anything, should the county do about it?
3. Do you support extending light rail to the airport?
Susan Peters
58, incumbent Sacramento County supervisor
1. Yes, I support asking property owners whether this natural resource is worth protecting through a benefit assessment.
2. County should continue holding workshops to give homeowners information and options. Voted to strengthen county's hand in cleaning up vacant properties.
3. No. We need to increase the availability of everyday bus service to job centers and put an emphasis on neighborhood shuttles. Don't overlook the maintenance of existing roadways.
Warren Harding
63, area parks commissioner
1. No. There are other solutions to fund and protect this valuable investment. The county should support the parkway with current funds.
2. County should not approve major new residential subdivisions outside of existing urban areas until housing prices and the lending market stabilize.
3. No. Use buses initially because it is more flexible and can be started now at less cost and phased in as ridership increases. Don't extend to airport until other needs are met and ridership is there.
