The second suspect in last month’s robbery-related homicide of William "Billy" Deer of south Sacramento has been identified as Frank Abella, who is in custody and will be tried as an adult, authorities said Thursday.
Abella, who was then 17, was arrested in mid-June -- but his name was not released at the time because he was a minor at the time.
That changed on Tuesday, when Abella turned 18 and was transferred from juvenile hall to Sacramento County Jail to await trial, said Erin Treadwell, a spokeswoman for the county's probation department.
The other suspect, James Davis Washington, 18, of Sacramento, was booked into Sacramento County Jail on June 12.
Both are charged with murder, robbery and torture with the intent to cause cruel or extreme pain.
At 4 a.m. June 7, Deer, 50, was found with serious head injuries in the 10200 block of Mills Station Road in Rancho Cordova. Sacramento County sheriff's detectives have said they believe the murder stemmed from a robbery.
Abella is from Rancho Cordova, according to his jail booking sheet.
