College students gathered at Sacramento City College on Tuesday to organize under the banner of No Youth Left Behind, a nonprofit organization that aims to help at-risk youths.
Students from the Los Rios Community College District rallied at the campus to spur interest in tutoring, mentoring and starting No Youth Left Behind Clubs, said Carroll Cooks, the Sacramento-based organization's founder. NYLB clubs are formed to mentor middle school and high school students.
Cooks stressed that students have an important role to contribute to NYLB.
"Students who are math or English majors will obviously be tutoring kids in those particular areas," said Cooks. Students with other majors also have a lot to contribute to the overall NYLB organization, Cooks said after the rally.
