FALL RIVER MILLS -- Four people died in a plane crash about a mile north of the golf course in Fall River Mills on Friday morning, a spokeswoman for the Shasta County coroner said.

The plane went down north of Highway 299E near Glenburn Road. The California Highway Patrol posted a notice about the crash on its Web site at 10:25 a.m.

The CHP sent an aircraft to survey the wreckage site for investigators, Officer J.D. Womack said.

Officials with the Shasta County Sheriff's Department and the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) were at the scene investigating the crash, the Coroner's Office said.

The names of the victims have not been released.
