VSP gains 'green' honor for office conservation

Published: Tuesday, Oct. 07, 2008 | Page 7B

VSP Vision Care was recently lauded for implementing "green" practices at its Rancho Cordova headquarters building, one of only 14 companies nationwide to receive the honor, VSP officials announced Monday.

VSP altered landscaping and installed low-flow plumbing fixtures to help cut water consumption by half and reduced its overall waste by 70 percent. It also installed monitoring devices to reduce its energy usage and carbon dioxide emissions.

The "platinum" certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design – Existing Buildings, or LEED-EB, is awarded yearly by the nonprofit U.S. Green Building Council.
