The Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will honor some of Northern California's leading business people at its annual Awards and Recognition Gala on Saturday evening.
The chamber will honor:
Business Woman of the Year: Vintner Amelia Ceja of Napa's Ceja Vineyards. Ceja, with her family, transformed a 15-acre investment in Carneros vines nearly 30 years ago into an award-winning winery.
Ambassador/Volunteer of the Year: Sacramento real estate agent Lizbeth Ficarra.
"The chamber depends on volunteers, and Lizbeth does everything that's required of an ambassador," said Diana Borroel, chamber president and chief executive officer.
Business Man of the Year: Ismael Higareda, owner of Mitote magazine. Higareda's family-owned publication has built a readership of 140,000 in less than five years, Borroel said.
Individual of the Year: Manuel Hernandez, president of the Sacramento City Unified School District Board of Education.
Corporate Advocate of the Year: Sacramento Municipal Utility District.
Non-Profit of the Year: Fairytale Town.
The chamber will also honor Elizabeth Gallagher, vice chair of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, which selected the Sacramento chamber as the host for its 29th annual Convention and Business Expo. That event will be Sept. 24-27 at the Sacramento Convention Center.
The 36th annual chamber gala, which will be from 5:30 p.m. to midnight at the Sacramento Convention Center, carries the theme, "Latinas: The Next Wave," and will celebrate the gains made by Hispanic women. Former U.S. Treasurer Rosario Marin will be the keynote speaker.
"Latinas are the fastest-growing segment of small business, and there are so many successful Latinas in the Sacramento region," Borroel said. "We haven't even tapped the surface of the people who should be honored."
