Hospital security officers gave a 10-day notice Friday that they will strike Kaiser Permanente in Sacramento, as well as Kaiser hospital facilities in the Bay Area and Los Angeles, to protest what they say is unfair treatment by their employer, Inter-Con.
More than 240 employees statewide are expected to take to the picket lines May 6-8 in what has been a two-year fight to join Service Employees International Union Local 24/7. The union represents about 5,000 security personnel in Northern California.
The security officers are seeking higher wages and paid sick leave.
Late last month, Inter-Con's 25 employees at Kaiser South Sacramento Medical Center picketed against the Pasadena-based security firm.
Kaiser has remained neutral in the labor dispute.
Inter-Con officials were not available for comment.
