Fred Buenrostro, chief executive officer for the California Public Employees' Retirement System, said Friday he will leave the pension fund June 30.
Buenrostro said earlier in the week that he intends to pursue professional opportunities in the private sector. He has worked for the state for 32 years, including the last six as CEO of CalPERS.
Rob Feckner, president of the CalPERS Board of Administration, said the selection of an interim replacement for Buenrostro will be discussed at the board's May meeting.
CalPERS Chief Investment Officer Russell Read is also scheduled to leave June 30.
