What: The Junior League of Sacramento's 65th anniversary celebration, "A Journey Through the Ages."
When and where: May 7 in the Grand Ballroom of the DoubleTree Hotel; 6 to 9 p.m. for the cocktails and hors d'oeuvres party; $30. For more information: www.jlsac.org.
JL's background: In its 65 years, the group has been instrumental in founding Fairytale Town, the Children's Receiving Home, the Child Abuse Prevention Council, the Crocker Art Museum docent program, the Crisis Nurseries and more.
Featured volunteer: Julie Bugatto joined the Junior League in 1996. "The 65th anniversary is the ideal opportunity to educate our members and the community about our history and to think big about the impact we are making now and can make in the future," she said.
A big new challenge has involved creating a Collections, Archives and Research Committee. "We are keepers of so much historical information related to the community and organizations," said Bugatto, "especially of the organizations that we helped found."
When Bugatto took on the Junior League presidency, she placed her career as a health-care consultant on hold. "I took a sabbatical from Hubbert Systems Consulting Inc.," said Bugatto. "And I am expecting our first child later this month."
