Volunteer Profile: Whine & Dine benefit goes to dogs

What: Whine & Dine, a benefit for Elk Grove Dog Parks.
When and where: April 4 at the Valley Oak Ballroom at the Wackford Complex, 9014 Bruceville Road, Elk Grove; $20 in advance, $25 at the door; ticket includes tastings and commemorative wine glass; register at www.yourcsd.com or call the Community Services District Parks and Recreation Department at (916) 405-5600.
Party hosts: The Cosumnes Community Services District and the Foundation's WOOF (We Offer Off-Leash Fun). Restaurants, wineries and breweries will provide food and drink; a silent auction and raffle will be held.
Guests: Humans only. Leave the dog at home, but bring a photo for the Pooch Picks bulletin board.
Beneficiary: Funds raised will be used to enhance and maintain two dog parks; a third is planned with construction beginning this summer.
Featured volunteer: As the chair of Whine & Dine, Jennifer Delucchi encourages the growth of dog parks, with good reason: Tag, a German shorthair pointer.
"Tag is so lovable, but the breed is active with high energy," she said. "We take him to one of the dog parks and he has a chance to play. Seeing the dog running and playing with the other dogs is wonderful."
Jennifer and her husband, James, added Tag to the household about five years ago.
"Most of us in Elk Grove have small yards, and the parks give the dogs a chance to run," she said. "The parks are fenced and once inside, the dogs are off-leash and can play."
"Whine & Dine combines my love for food and wine at a tasting party and my love for dogs," Delucchi said.
