I Love You, Beth Cooper
1 star
Roger Moore of the Orlando Sentinel writes: Oh, to have teenage kids just so I could forbid them to see "I Love You, Beth Cooper." A miscast and misjudged graduation-night comedy, "Cooper" occasionally only occasionally wanders into "harmless." (Most teens) won't find much to laugh at in this unfunny comedy. Paul Rust is the charmless lead, Dennis. And that girl he has lusted for but has never ever spoken to? She (Hayden Panettiere) gets his punch line: "I love you, Beth Cooper." Rated PG-13
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
3 stars
Steve Persall of the St. Petersburg Times writes: This is actually a pretty good action flick, as brawny as Paramount's other Hasbro toy adaptation, Michael Bay's "Transformers," although less frantic, and assembled as a genuine movie rather than a nonsensical fireworks display. "The Rise of Cobra" is wall-to-wall gadgets and comic book fantasy presented with the rambunctious imagination of a 10-year-old playing with action figures. Sure, it's loud and dumb, but it admits that. Rated PG-13
The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3
2 stars
The Bee's Carla Meyer writes: Denzel Washington and John Travolta always have shown exorbitant amounts of charisma, even as movie stars go. That charisma, impervious to age, weight gain and in Washington's case, even sweater vests remains fully evident in "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3." This "Pelham" (a remake of the 1974 thriller) plays as if it were two movies. There's the tense action-drama at transit headquarters, where dispatcher Walter Garber (Washington) calmly tries to reason with Travolta's character, Ryder, via radio. And there's the over-the-top action comedy in the immobile subway car. Rated R
Aliens in the Attic
2 stars
Roger Moore of the Orlando Sentinel writes: This kid-flick mix of live action and animation has a few positive messages, a few laughs and a few comic throw-downs, one with Doris Roberts going all "Crouching Tiger" on an alien- controlled frat boy. Hilarious? No. But will you hate your kids for begging to see it? Nooooo. Can't say that about "G-Force." Ashley Tisdale stars in the adventure movie about a group of kids on vacation who protect their summer home from invaders. Rated PG
Food, Inc.
3 stars
Christy Lemire of the Associated Press writes: Director Robert Kenner presents an even-tempered but nonetheless horrifying dissection of the U.S. food industry. Representatives from food industry behemoths like Tyson and Perdue wouldn't speak to Kenner for his film. Rated PG
