Night of 1,000 Pumpkins

Kids, teens, adults and businesses are encouraged to drop off their carved creations to be judged in four categories, and the completed pumpkins will come to life when they're lit at dusk in the Pumpkin Lighters Parade. The goal is to light 1,000 hand-carved pumpkins. If organizers and volunteers succeed, it could be one of this year's most memorable fall sights.

The 16th annual art show is based on cross-cultural interpretations of Día de Los Muertos celebrations, envisioned and executed by Sacramento-area artists. The provocative installations, creative interpretations of the authentic altar-making tradition, encompass themes of family, celebrities, social trends, politics, misfortune and war.
