The hottest video online right now? Probably the Sarah Silverman-Matt Damon duet, an "R-rated" comedic faux breakup song to her boyfriend, Jimmy Kimmel. Let's break it down into five easy pieces.
1. Bleep. It aired on Kimmel's ABC show "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Thursday (he's celebrating his fifth anniversary) so it's four-plus minutes of a bleeping refrain this was a broadcast network, after all. And the refrain is Silverman announcing to Kimmel that she is um bleeping Matt Damon.
2. Strike. Silverman said she wrote the sketch last fall, before the writer's strike, so Guild members wouldn't get their bleeps in a bunch.
3. The joke. Kimmel's running gag is to say, at the end of his show, "Apologies to Matt Damon, we ran out of time." Damon once appeared on the show, Kimmel cut him off, and Damon unleashed a string of bleeping obscenities all a scripted joke. Near the end of the video, Damon says, "Jimmy, we're out of time."
4. References. The video captures the essence of music videos everywhere, but "Good Will Hunting" fans will pick up the line, "How do you like them apples?" Except here, Damon is talking about Silverman's bleeps.
5. Publicist. At the end, Silverman tells Kimmel that if he has any questions, he can contact her publicist, Amy Zvi. That is her publicist. That is real. The phone number on the screen, no.
