Paul Luehrs has been named vice president/chief operating officer of Mercy San Juan Medical Center. He brings 25 years of experience to the position. He worked as chief operating officer for Mercy Hospitals in Bakersfield from 2002 to 2005. Most recently, Luehrs served as the vice president of ancillary and support services at Methodist Hospital.

Cassie Alaniz has been promoted to executive director/chief executive officer of Wonder Inc., a program that pairs children in foster care with adults for fun activities. She was previously the program director.

Sterling Hotel has hired Martin Vale as general manager. He will oversee all operations of the Sterling Hotel, Chanterelle restaurant and the Vizcaya Pavilion and Mansion. Vale brings more than 35 years of experience to the position. Most recently, he worked at Leland Stanford Mansion.

SynapSense Corp., a wireless instrumentation solutions provider, has hired Ray Pfeifer as vice president of business development. He is a data center energy-efficiency expert. Pfeifer recently worked as senior vice president of business development and marketing for Celebrity Group Inc.

Dr. Linda Halderman has been hired as senior policy adviser for state Sen. Sam Aanestad, R-Penn Valley. She will provide expertise and insight on health care. Halderman is a board-certified general surgeon, specializing in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. She has written more than 35 articles on a number of health-related topics.

McDonough Holland & Allen PC has named John Barnes, Julie Raney, Brian Taylor and Kara Ueda to shareholder. Barnes is an attorney in the health care practice group. Raney practices in the employment and litigation groups. Taylor is in the health care practice group. Ueda practices in the public law group.

Bryan Shields has started iSmile Dental Products. He brings 18 years of experience to the com-pany. Most recently, he was the senior vice president of marketing for Becker Parkin Dental Supply.

Jenny Padilla has joined Precision PR, a full-service public relations agency in Roseville. She will focus on media relations and consumer outreach for the food and wine industry. Padilla previously worked for Ogilvy Public Relations.

Laura Kozier and JoAnn Shapiro have formed Associates West Commercial Real Estate Inc. The firm will focus on sale and leasing of commercial properties. Kozier previously worked as sales manager/broker associate of Re/Max Gold Commercial. Shapiro formerly worked as senior sales and leasing associate at Re/Max Gold Commercial.
