Sharing Ideas: Old light fixtures get new life as flowerpots

Published: Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008 | Page 3D

Jacqui Koukol of Sacramento shared this idea for using discarded light fixtures. She turned the old shades into flower pots.

Koukol planted a string of pearls (Senecio Herreianus), an easy-to-grow succulent, and an African violet in small peat pots, then tucked a peat pot inside each shade. Because the shades have holes where light bulbs originally screwed in, drainage is not a problem. "Watering them is easy," Koukol noted, "and they are thriving."
