The Contra Costa Historical Society operates two museums in San Pablo -- the Alvarado Adobe and the Blume House. The Alvarado Adobe is the home of Juan Bautista Alvarado, former governor of Mexican Alta California. The Blume House is a farmhouse that was built in 1905. In 1979, the house and a bunk house were moved to the present location after the land they were on was going to be used for a new shopping center.

The Alvarado Adobe Museum and Blume House are located in the Civic Center complex, Alvarado Square, 13831 San Pablo Avenue (on the corner of San Pablo Avenue and Church Lane)
