Once part of a Spanish land grant, Citrus Heights is now the second largest city in Sacramento County. And its residents are pretty pleased with their town.
The city surveyed residents in 1998 about local matters. The results showed that two-thirds rated their quality of life as good with an even higher percentage citing city services as good or excellent. The quality of recreation, police and streets and sidewalks were all rated well.
A middle income, family community with close to 90,000 population, Citrus Heights provides excellent recreational possibilities, including summer concerts and a weekend family campout in Rusch Park, complete with guided stargazing. It is also close to the American River and both Folsom and Natoma lakes, which provide boating, fishing, swimming and sailing opportunities.
Citrus Heights offers a wide range of housing, from apartment rentals to townhouses to luxurious homes. Shopping is convenient with easy access to major shopping centers, including Sunrise Mall.
The city is located about 15 miles northeast of downtown Sacramento and straddles Interstate 80, providing easy access via car, bus or rail transit.
