Job sectors in Sacramento still growing

Nearly all job sectors in the four-county Sacramento region are shrinking, but these five -- mostly related to education or healthcare -- are bucking the trend. (Related: The fastest shrinking job sectors in Sacramento.)

Public Schools and Colleges
Schools grow as the region grows; consequently, Sacramento public schools and colleges have seen a net increase of 1,400 jobs in the past 12 months.

Hospital Workers
While most other job sectors show a bunch of dips amidst some increases, Sacramento metro hospitals have steadily added jobs year after year.

Sacramento's population is getting older. Bad news for boomers, but good news for nursing homes.

Outpatient Health Care Workers
Doctors, psychiatrists, dentists and all the people who work in their offices are weathering the economic storm better than most workers.

Waste Management Jobs
This one is pretty much just holding steady. Still, a little bit of job growth is a lot better than what most sectors are seeing. Apparently, people continue to produce trash, even in a recession.
