017 Conway Summit

Dave Henry
The color at Conway Summit (stop number 7 on our map) is coming on quickly. Hot days and cold nights, especially with 40º+ variations, make for vivid color. Water (rain) and moderate temperatures create more subdued shades of color. Maybe this explains the nice color we’re seeing everywhere. The color here along with Virginia Lakes and the ridges looks good. Conway is the only area with this much green still. We should have a great color season this year thanks to the hot weather. This photo was made on September 28, 2010 with a Canon 24-105mm zoom lens at 105mm on a Canon 5D MkII full frame sensor camera. The exposure was 1/180 sec. at f/8 using ISO 400 and a polarizing filter. For information on using filters, please check our Tips & Techniques section.
