Interactive: Census shows big shift to region's suburbs

During the last decade, most of the region's growth took place in neighborhoods that were largely farmland in 2000, including Lincoln, North Natomas, and Elk Grove. Meanwhile, several of the area's more established neighborhoods saw population declines.

Source: 2005-2009 American Community Survey. Since results are culled from five years of survey data, some trends that happened late in the decade will not be fully reflected in the above map.
