The average teacher salary last year was $69,435, up 1 percent from 2012, according to new state figures. The average superintendent salary last year, excluding part-timers, was roughly $167,000, the same as 2012. The number of teachers dropped again, this time by about 3,000, or 1 percent. Teacher pay varies widely by district.
