HOW'S YOUR FLY LINE?

Representatives from Sage, Simms and Korkers will be on hand Saturday to demonstrate new equipment at American Fly Fishing Co.'s open house and barbecue.

Jay Fair will lead free tying demonstrations; there will be local guides to answer questions about booking trips, and entertainment will be provided by the Western Lights Band. The event will be held 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at 3523 Fair Oaks Blvd., Sacramento.

WEEKEND HIKES

• The Sacramento Valley Conservancy will offer a wildflower hike at 9 a.m. Saturday ($10) and a two-hour equestrian ride at 10 a.m. Sunday ($20) at Deer Creek Hills (meet at Latrobe and Stone House roads, north of Highway 16); www.sacramentovalley conservancy.org.

• The American River Conservancy will lead its Kanaka Valley exploration hike (an easy six-mile hike off Green Valley Road in El Dorado Hills) at 9 a.m. Saturday, and a six-mile round trip family dog hike on the El Dorado Trail at 1 p.m. Sunday; $5 members, $10 nonmembers; (530) 621-1224.

REI PROGRAMS

• Photographer and videographer Scot Miller will sign copies of his book "My First Summer in the Sierra: 100th Anniversary Illustrated Edition," Tuesday at REI Roseville (1148 Galleria Blvd.), free.

• Learn where Willie Weir's cycling adventures have taken him when he talks about his book "Travels With Willie," Wednesday at REI Folsom, 2425 Iron Point Road, $5.

Presentations are from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

STRETCH OUT WINTER

Alpine Adventures will hold its Spring Fling trip to Boreal on April 2.

The $55-$99 package includes charter bus service, a lesson and rental gear. Early registration is Saturday.

A RUN TO ROCKLIN

The eighth annual Run Rocklin, a benefit for the Matt Redding Foundation, will be held April 3 at Johnson- Springview Park, 5480 Fifth St., Rocklin, with a 12K run at 8 a.m., followed by a 5K run/ walk at 8:15 a.m.

There's also a free quarter-mile kids fun run at 7:45 a.m. and a free one-mile run for kids at 9:30 a.m. Registration is $34 general, $20 ages 18 and younger.
