Almost one-third of students screened under the state's physical fitness test last year maintained an unhealthy weight, new state data show. Students in schools with high poverty rates tended to have more unhealthy children. This database shows the proportion of students in each school that were outside the "healthy fitness zone" for weight -- their body mass index was too low or high for their age group.
Note: The state's physical fitness test is given to more than 1 million 5th-, 7th- and 9th-graders each year. Go here to see results on measures other than body composition; go here to see the standards students are asked to meet. Source: California Department of Education
