The Sacramento County Department of Transportation has launched its spring "Pothole Sweeps Week," an intensified effort to identify and repair potholes.
Pothole sweeps are conducted in the spring and fall in unincorporated areas.
The spring sweep began last week in the Arden Arcade area, and will continue into areas north and south of the American River.
Work crews inspect streets and mark potholes with white paint. Beginning May 9, residents are encouraged to call the department's customer service line, (916) 875-5171, or go to www.sacdot.com/tools/eservices to report potholes that are not marked with white paint.
Beginning today and continuing for a two- to three-week period after inspection, maintenance crews will go through the streets repairing the potholes. The department's policy is to repair potholes as soon as possible.
Officials said potholes typically are repaired within 72 hours after they are reported.
The department reports that 35,400 potholes are repaired annually, or about 2,950 per month. The annual cost of pothole repair averages $1.9 million.
