Brady Dragmire is one of the prime architects in turning tiny Bradshaw Christian into a Sac-Joaquin Section small-school sports power.
So on the last day and the final game of a brilliant four-year, three-sport varsity career for the Pride, the 6-foot, 180-pound right-hander added one more memorable performance Monday at Sacramento City College.
Dragmire struck out eight, allowed four hits, went 2 for 2 with a double, scored four runs, stole two bases and survived being hit twice by a pitch, including once on the head, in leading Bradshaw Christian to a 15-2, six-inning victory over Delta in the Division VI championship game.
It was the second consecutive section baseball championship for the Pride (23-8).
Last season, Dragmire pitched his team past Valley Christian 4-2 in the Division VII final.
Dragmire, the school's most decorated male athlete, finishes as a key member of five section championship teams two in baseball, two in football and one in basketball.
"Hopefully, a little legend is being set here for Bradshaw Christian that no matter how little your school is, you can get to the big game if you work hard and play together," Dragmire said.
The victory ended some senior-year frustration for Dragmire.
The Pride finished as a section runner-up in football and basketball, the latter with Dragmire sidelined with a right ankle injury. He was hurt just before the start of the postseason, and the injury forced him to miss the start of baseball season.
"I'm 100 percent now," said Dragmire, who allowed six hits and struck out 28 in going 3-0 in 20 playoff innings. "Today was an adrenaline rush. My team I can't be more proud of them. We swung the bats today."
Bradshaw Christian led by Ron Hendry's 3-for-3 day touched three Delta pitchers for 10 hits in a game mired in sloppy play. The teams combined for eight errors; seven passed balls and eight hit batters.
But while Delta (16-8) surrendered runs in droves because of its miscues, Bradshaw Christian was hardly impacted by its mistakes because of Dragmire's presence and his 90-mph-plus fastball.
"With a ball in Brady's hands, you always have a chance of winning I don't care if it's Division I or Division XII," said Bradshaw Christian coach Drew Rickert. "Our kids believe in him."
Dragmire has a scholarship to Nevada, but he is expected to be selected in the upcoming Major League Baseball draft. He said he has been contacted by 13 big-league teams.
"I'm just waiting for the day to come," Dragmire said. "We'll see if the pick is high enough to (keep) me from going to school."
Rickert, noting Dragmire's pitches have been clocked as high as 94 mph this season, expects his star will be drafted.
"He is going to have choices, which is a good thing," Rickert said. "I'm excited for him."
