Community college students are having a hard time filling out their summer schedule because of fewer classes being offered.
Officials of the Los Rios Community College District said that students at American River, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake and Sacramento City colleges can't get some classes because summer class offerings are down about 25 percent because of state budget cuts.
Classes started this week with 7,000 fewer students than at the same time last year. About 26,000 are enrolled.
"There is a huge demand for classes," said Los Rios Chancellor Brice Harris in a news release.
Ninety percent of summer classes were full before the end of priority registration.
Full wait lists are common.
Officials said that with no state budget and uncertainty of funding for the next school year, the district's colleges have also reduced offerings about 7 percent for the fall semester.
