The Reno Film Festival holds pleasures for fans of movies and moviemaking.

The 11th annual celebration occurs Wednesday through next Sunday, highlighted by a forum with Joel Cox, Clint Eastwood's film editor and an Academy Award winner, and cinematographer Richard Cantu.

Cox's Oscar came in 1993 for "Unforgiven," and he was nominated again in 2004 for "Million Dollar Baby." He began as an assistant editor for Eastwood in 1976 ("The Outlaw Josey Wales") and became principal editor in 1983 ("Sudden Impact"), so his list of accomplishments is long.

Prior to the Eastwood connection he was assistant editor on various films, including Sam Peckinpah's "The Wild Bunch" in 1969. He has said that in his 30-year-plus collaboration with Eastwood that the director only re-cut one scene.

Richard Cantu was a cameraman on films such as "The General's Daughter" in 1999 and the very scary "The Mist" in 2007.

He is also known as the principal cinematographer for 68 episodes of "The Shield."

Also participating in the forum will be Nevada casting chief Juli Green and Robin Holabird, former deputy director of the Nevada Film Office. Their discussion will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. next Sunday in the Heston Room at the Siena Hotel ($15).

Much of the festival is given to the annual Reno Indie Competition, with its Lumiere Awards being given from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Joe Crowley Student Union Theater (free). The animation and Nevada finalists will be shown at the Union on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and the comedy and drama on Friday from 7-9 p.m. Documentary finalists will be shown from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Siena Ballroom ($8 general, $4 student).

Around the Silver Circle

The Diana Krall concert kicking off the Lake Tahoe Summer Concert Series on Saturday at Harvey's was originally scheduled as "An Evening With Diana Krall." Reportedly, she did not want a guest artist – that is, until she heard that Mose Allison was available.

According to Harrah's/ Harveys Entertainment Director John Packer, she jumped at the chance to have Allison appear with her, since both she and her husband, Elvis Costello, are big Allison fans.

Eclipse: A Tribute to Pink Floyd follows at 10 p.m. Friday, and Bri Anne Michelle appears with the Estate at 10 p.m. Saturday (all in the Red Room; http://crystalbaycasino.com).
