Get ramped up for skateboarding, food

What: The Maloof Road Tour comes to the area, holding contests today – including a best line contest and best trick contest on a mini-ramp. On Sunday, the tour pulls in volunteers for skate park cleanups, graffiti removal and skate gear drives for the kids. Barbecues each day.

Where: Today, Epic Indoor Skatepark, 1104 Tinker Road, Rocklin; Sunday, 28th and B St. Skate Park, 20 28th St., Sacramento.

What: The 2011 National Train Show, a combined industry trade show and public train show to promote the hobby of model railroading, includes hands-on demonstrations and 35,750 square-feet of modular layouts.

Where: Sacramento Convention Center, 1400 J St., Sacramento.

When: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Cost: $12 for adults, $11 for adults 65 and over, $6 for youth (6-12), free for children under 6.

Nature center offers peek into Maidu past

What: The Maidu Summer Village Tour explores the Maidu people, who have lived in this area since long before Europeans came to California. Join a naturalist to view cultural artifacts and craftwork, and then take a tour of a replica Maidu Village.

Where: Effie Yeaw Nature Center, 2850 San Lorenzo Way, Carmichael.

When: 10:30 a.m. today

Cost: Park entrance is $5 per car, donations accepted.

It's like a treasure hunt, with jewelry and furniture

What: The Sacramento Antique Faire features more than 300 vendors offering furniture, vintage clothing and accessories, architectural items, art, jewelry, textiles, lighting and collectibles of all kinds.

Where: Sacramento Outdoor Marketplace, 2400 21st St., Sacramento.

When: 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost: $3, free for children 16 and under.

Expect panda-monium with exhibit reopening

What: The reopening of the red panda exhibit at the Sacramento Zoo includes speakers, a wildlife stage show, activities for children and, of course, red pandas.

Where: Sacramento Zoo, Land Park Drive and Sutterville Road, Sacramento.

When: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days.

Cost: Included with zoo admission, $11 for general admission, $7 for children 2 to 12, free children under 2.
