Investing firm honors local ag innovators

Fourteen California agricultural companies, including a handful in the Sacramento region, were named Monday as "Game Changers of the Year" for their innovations in using technology, raising capital, and teaching and community work.

The awards were announced by Grow- California, a Chico-based firm that brings together venture capital investors with entrepreneurs and growth companies.

Among the 14 companies honored: the Robert Mondavi Institute Teaching and Research Winery, Davis; AgraQuest, Davis; National Ag Science Center, Modesto; Marrone Bio Innovations, Davis; E. & J. Gallo Winery, Modesto; Blue Diamond Growers, Sacramento; and Lundberg Family Farms, Richvale.

The companies will be honored on July 20-21 by state Secretary of Food and Agriculture Karen Ross during the California Agriculture Innovation conference at the University of California, Davis. For details: www.grow-california.com.
