D.J. Huston, 15, of Rancho Cordova, had never been to the Sacramento River until he went on a barbecue outing in March as part of the Sacramento Violence Intervention Program. The program started by Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, south Sacramento, attempts to rescue young victims of violence.
