The Yolo County Transportation District will break ground Monday for $4.7 million in improvements to its public transportation operations facility in Woodland.
The project at 350 Industrial Ave. will include added bus parking, a biodiesel fueling facility, protective cover for the bus-washing area and security improvements, such as lighting, automatic gates, surveillance camera systems and fencing. It also will provide improved and expanded facilities for Yolobus customers and employees.
The district operates Yolobus, which provides more than 1.6 million rides annually, according to a district news release. The operations facility is used to maintain and operate more than 60 buses.
The district employs 125 people, 114 of whom work for a private-sector company.
Terry Bassett, the district's executive director, said 41 percent of the funding for the improvements will be provided by the Federal Transit Administration. The remainder of the money will come from Proposition 1B, the state transportation bond measure passed by voters in 2006, and local funds.
The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at the public transportation operations facility at 350 Industrial Way.
