FOLSOM AT GRANT

Two of the section's premier programs and quarterbacks (Granite Bay's Brendan Keeney vs. St. Mary's Bowe Merin) go head-to-head in an early season test for both. St. Mary's won a wild 41-35 meeting in Stockton last season.

Marquee game of the "Smackdown at Sactown" showcase is a rematch of the 2008 CIF State Bowl Open Division game in which the Pacers upset hugely favored Long Beach Poly 25-20 in Carson, ushering in a new era of Sacramento football.

WESTLAKE AT DEL ORO

Sept. 3, 8 p.m.

Per Del Oro coach Casey Taylor's philosophy of playing the best, the Golden Eagles take on the Southern Section power in the finale of the "Battle at the Capital." Del Oro also plays host to defending large school Central Section champion Clovis West on Sept. 9.

ROCKLIN AT WHITNEY

Sept. 9, 7:30 p.m.

The Wildcats are bringing in portable stands to accommodate the crowd expected for this new rivalry that also features Whitney's Pac-12 recruits Jake Rodrigues (Oregon) and Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick (USC). Rocklin has bragging rights with its 48-19 win in the inaugural Quarry Bowl last season.

GRANT AT BURBANK

Sept. 10, 6 p.m.

The Titans, forced for several years to play home games and playoffs on the road because of a tattered football field and inadequate seating, will debut their new $9.3 million facility against their former Metro Conference rivals.

JESUIT VS. CHRISTIAN BROTHERS

Sept. 17, 7 p.m., at Hughes Stadium

The biggest rivalry in the area, producing crowds in excess of 15,000 fans or more, is always a battle, no matter the teams' respective records.
