Tell Us About It: A new use for an old barbecue

I used our old gas barbecue, an inexpensive model, to create a utility side table for our patio. I stripped off all the gas works, the barrel, controls and top shelving, leaving just the frame and some wire shelving below. Then I spray-painted the whole thing flat black. (For a garden table you could use one or two bright colors.) I affixed a piece of Hardie-Backboard to the top of the frame using the holes that originally attached the top shelves. I laid out a tile pattern and then grouted it with sanded black grout. You could use stained or painted wood, but you would need to seal it keep it out of the weather. Tile allows the table to withstand the outside elements and just needs to be covered in the winter.

A great-looking addition for patio entertaining.
