Kevin R. Atkinson, a graphic designer who co-founded a Sacramento information technology firm, died Sept. 8 of colon cancer, his family said. He was 48.

Mr. Atkinson was vice president of INTELIGIT, which specializes in designing websites, Internet marketing and digital market projects for groups, businesses and government agencies. He added artistic elements to websites for many clients, including William Jessup University, St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and California state agencies.

A 1986 fine arts graduate of the University of Oklahoma, he began INTELIGIT in 2000 with his wife, Ramona, company president and chief executive. The business won industry recognition, including a 2002 Dottie Award and a 2006 small-business award from the Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce.

"Kevin dealt with people very well," his wife said. "He could sit down with clients, listen to their needs and come up with a Web design that would match their vision. He was very gifted."

Mr. Atkinson was born in 1963 in Duncan, Okla. He moved to the Sacramento area in 1988 and lived most recently in Lincoln.

Besides his wife of 23 years, survivors include his daughter, Ashley of Sacramento; brothers, Shanon and Kelly, both of Norman, Okla.; and father, Billy of Duncan, Okla. A memorial is set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Mayhew Community Baptist Church, 3401 Routier Road, Sacramento.
